Camera systems are security solutions made up of cameras, a recorder, storage, cabling and monitoring software that continuously observe and record an area. A well-planned system deters theft and vandalism, makes it possible to review incidents afterwards and saves business owners time through remote monitoring. In residential complexes, factories, warehouses, shops, offices, schools and car parks, security camera systems are now regarded as part of the basic infrastructure.
This guide compares camera technologies and camera types to help you choose the system that fits your needs.
Camera Technologies: IP or Analog HD?
Camera systems fall into two main groups depending on their recording infrastructure. IP cameras transmit the image digitally over the network to an NVR recorder; they offer high resolution, power over a single cable with PoE, and smart analytics. Analog HD cameras connect to a DVR recorder via coaxial cable; they can be considered for small projects where the existing analog infrastructure is to be kept. IP systems are generally preferred for new installations. For details, see our IP camera systems page.
| Feature | IP camera + NVR | Analog HD camera + DVR |
|---|---|---|
| Image quality | High-resolution options depending on the model | Varies by model, usually more limited |
| Cabling | Network cable; power and data on a single cable with PoE | Coaxial cable and usually a separate power line |
| Expansion | Easy over the network | Limited by the recorder's channel count |
| Smart analytics | In-camera, depending on the model | More limited |
| Best suited for | New installations, large and multi-building sites | Upgrading existing analog infrastructure |
Camera Types
- Dome camera: Ceiling-mounted, dome-shaped cameras that stay discreet indoors. Suitable for offices, shops and corridors.
- Bullet camera: Cylindrical cameras typically used for facades, gardens and perimeter security. Their visibility increases the deterrent effect.
- PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera: Can be rotated and zoomed remotely; used for active monitoring by an operator in large areas such as car parks and factory yards.
- Fisheye camera: Provides a wide angle with a single camera; preferred for an overall view in shops and halls.
- License plate camera: A camera specially tuned to capture number plates at vehicle entrances and exits; see license plate recognition system.
Camera Planning by Application Area
In residential complexes, entrance gates, car park ramps, lift lobbies and children's play areas are priority points. In factories and warehouses, loading docks, stock areas, perimeter walls and vehicle entrances stand out; on large sites, PTZ cameras play a complementary role. In shops, the till, entrance and aisles are monitored; in offices, the entrance, archive and server room. In car parks, license plate cameras can be added for the entry and exit lanes alongside overview cameras. Whatever the area, cameras should be positioned to cover each other's blind spots, and the recorder should be kept in a location protected against unauthorized access.
How to Choose a Camera System
- Purpose: Decide what you want to see at each camera point: general movement, a person's face or a vehicle's plate?
- Coverage: List critical points such as entrances and exits, tills, warehouse doors, car parks and perimeter walls.
- Night vision: In poorly lit areas, infrared range and low-light performance are important.
- Environmental resistance: For outdoor cameras, water and dust protection as well as temperature tolerance should be checked.
- Recording period: How many days of footage you want to keep determines the disk capacity.
- Remote monitoring: Viewing from a phone requires sufficient internet upload speed and secure access settings.
What Determines Camera System Prices?
- Number, type and resolution of cameras
- Indoor or outdoor model, night vision capability
- Channel count and disk capacity of the recorder
- Cable distances, conduit and trunking work, need for working at height
- Special requirements such as smart analytics, plate reading and PTZ
- Usability of the existing infrastructure
Security camera prices alone may give you an idea, but a proper comparison should be made on the complete system. After the site survey, we provide an itemized quote.
How Is a Camera System Installed?
- During the free site survey, camera points, viewing angles and cable routes are determined.
- Camera types, the recorder and disk capacity are finalized.
- Cabling is laid, and the cameras and recorder are mounted.
- Angles, recording schedule, motion detection and user permissions are configured.
- The mobile app is set up and user training is provided.
How Do You Connect a Camera System to Your Phone?
The recorder is connected to the internet, the manufacturer's mobile app is installed on the phone and the device is added to the app with a secure user account. During installation we complete these steps, change the default passwords and define separate permissions for different users.
KVKK and the Duty to Inform
Since camera recordings contain personal data, it is generally recommended to indicate recorded areas with warning signs, prepare a privacy notice and restrict access to recordings under the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK). We recommend consulting a legal advisor on whether camera placement and retention periods suit your business.
Maintenance and Service
Lens cleaning, disk health checks, software updates and regular verification that recording continues uninterrupted keep the system reliable. Our technical service team supports you with faults and maintenance. Working from Perpa Ticaret Merkezi in Istanbul with devices from various brands, Sensör Yazılım installs camera systems and ships to all 81 provinces of Turkey. Get a quote for your project.

Frequently asked questions about camera systems
How many days of recordings are kept?
It depends on disk capacity, the number of cameras and resolution; typical installations are planned for 15 – 30 days.
Can I watch from my phone?
Yes. Live view and playback of recordings are available via the mobile app.
What is an IP camera?
An IP camera is a security camera that converts the image into digital data, sends it over a computer network and has its own network address. The footage is transferred over the network to an NVR recorder or software.
Does an IP camera work without internet?
Yes. Recording and local viewing continue without internet over the local network between the cameras and the NVR. Internet is only needed to view from a phone or a remote location.
